Superior performance with efficient solid handling

80 Series®

The Gorman-Rupp 80 Series® self-priming centrifugal pumps are built for continuous-duty applications, delivering medium head performance with the ability to handle mild solids under demanding conditions. The straight-in suction design ensures rapid priming, allowing for higher suction levels than most other self-priming centrifugal pumps.

Liquid enters directly into the impeller eye, ensuring smooth flow with minimal turbulence. A suction check valve prevents backflow when the pump shuts off.

With fewer moving parts, the 80 Series® self-priming pumps require minimal maintenance, making them easy to service and cost-effective in the long run. Available in various sizes, materials, and drive configurations, they are ideal for industrial, construction, mining, agriculture, municipal, and petroleum applications.

Frequently Asked Questions – 80 Series®

What is the Gorman-Rupp 80 Series®?

The 80 Series® is a range of heavy-duty, self-priming centrifugal pumps designed for medium-head applications with mild solids handling. The pumps feature a straight-in suction design with a suction check valve that prevents return flow when the pump is shut off. Available in sizes from 1.25″ (30 mm) to 6″ (150 mm), the 80 Series is built for continuous, demanding work.

The 80 Series handles a wide variety of fluids, from clean water to liquids containing mild solids up to 1.94″ (49 mm) depending on the model. This makes the pumps suitable for industrial fluids, construction site water, agricultural applications, municipal duties, and petroleum products.

The 80 Series includes a suction check valve and an open impeller designed for mild solids handling (up to 1.94″ / 49 mm), while the O Series has a straight-in suction without a check valve and an enclosed impeller optimized for clean liquids. The 80 Series is the right choice when fluids may contain solids or debris. The O Series is better suited for clean liquid transfer at higher heads and higher efficiency.

Max capacity: 428 m3/h (119 l/s). Max head: 63 m. Max solids: 49 mm. Pump sizes: 1.25″ (30 mm), 1.5″ (40 mm), 2″ (50 mm), 3″ (75 mm), 4″ (100 mm), 6″ (150 mm). Actual performance depends on the specific model.

1 1/4″ models: 81 1/4A, 81 1/4B

max capacity up to 11 m3/h (3 l/s)

max head up to 12 m.

1 1/2″ models: 81 1/2A, 81 1/2B, 81 1/2D, 81 1/2E, 81 1/2P

max capacity up to 29 m3/h (8 l/s)

max head up to 27 m.

2″ models: 82D, 82E, 82H

max capacity up to 57 m3/h (16 l/s)

max head up to 63 m.

3″ models: 83A, 83B, 83C, 83D

max capacity up to 93 m3/h (26 l/s)

max head up to 54 m.

4″ models: 84A, 84B

max capacity up to 169 m3/h (47 l/s)

max head up to 37 m.

6″ models: 86A, 86B

max capacity up to 428 m3/h (119 l/s)

max head up to 37 m.

Standard material is Cast Iron. Depending on the model, additional options include Ductile Iron, Stainless Steel, CD4MCu, Aluminum, Cast Steel, and Plastic (model 81 1/2P). The right material depends on the fluid being pumped and the operating conditions. Consult Gorman-Rupp Europe for material recommendations.

80 Series pumps create a pressure reduction on the suction side, which allows atmospheric pressure to push the liquid into the pump. Before first use, the pump casing must be filled with liquid. After initial priming, the pump retains liquid in the volute and re-primes automatically on subsequent starts. The suction check valve prevents the priming liquid from draining back through the suction line when the pump is stopped.

80 Series pumps feature a multi-vane, open impeller designed for higher efficiency and mild solids handling. Depending on the model, the impeller handles solids up to 49 mm. This makes the pumps well suited for applications involving mild solids at medium head.

The replaceable wearplate ensures the pump operates at peak efficiency. It eliminates the need to replace expensive castings when wear occurs. Most 80 Series wearplates are constructed of extra-thick carbon steel for extended service life.

80 series pumps can be driven by an electric motor, or by an Internal Combustion Engine.

Electric motors:

IE3 or IE4 (Super-) Premium Efficiency IEC electric motors

Battery powered motors for shaft powers up to 1.8 kW

Combustion engines

Air- or liquid cooled petrol- or diesel engines (stage V compliant)

The Shield-A-Spark is a specialty 80 Series pump designed for fuel handling and volatile liquid applications. These engine-driven models are classified as explosion-proof and safe to use with volatile liquids. Available in 2″ (50 mm) to 3″ (75 mm) sizes, with Aluminum construction and Viton® seal elastomer.

Industrial fluid transfer, construction site dewatering, mining operations, agricultural irrigation and water supply, municipal water and wastewater duties, and petroleum product handling (including Shield-A-Spark for volatile liquids).

Solids handling capacity depends on the model, ranging from .25″ (6 mm) on the smallest models to (49 mm) on the 6″ models. For applications with heavy solids or rag content, consider the Gorman-Rupp Super T Series® or Ultra V Series®.

Yes. 80 Series pumps are designed for non-stop work loads. The heavy-duty construction, quality manufacturing, and replaceable wearplate contribute to long service life with minimal downtime.

80 Series pumps have few moving parts, making them easy to maintain and service. The replaceable wearplate restores pump efficiency without replacing expensive castings, which reduces long-term operating costs. Parts available through the distributor network. Warranties up to 60 months. Training via the Gorman-Rupp Academy.
