As bombas submersíveis apresentavam muitas falhas. Em caso de mau funcionamento, o município precisava enviar dois funcionários ao local para remover as bombas e realizar a manutenção. Essa era uma operação muito cara, que também envolvia riscos de segurança e higiene. A Gorman-Rupp forneceu a solução.
